Me: Niece, would you please come here?
Niece: What? (She yells from her room.)
Me: Please come here.
Niece: What? What do you want? (She yells as she walks from her room.)
Me: Don’t what me. Please come here. You should say, “Yes, ma’am or sir. It is not polite to respond to an adult by bellowing the word what.”
Then the realization hits that I have crossed the line from being the fun Aunt and landed squarely in the zone of turning into my mother.

LOL I’m sure you can still be the fun aunt and teach them some manners as well…?

I can relate. With 10 y/o son I find myself sounding scarily like my Dad.
