New Kids on the Block were on the Today show this morning. They entertained the crowd with a montage of their hits. I will admit that my room use to be covered in pictures of these guys when I was 13. I was in love with Joey and Jordan. I even bought the Christmas album. I am not a big fan musical reunions. Unless it is The Monkees singing Daydream Believer. I had such a crush on Mikey Dolenz and Davy Jones during their reunion in the mid 80’s. Although technically they were old enough to be my grandfather. There is just nothing better than The Monkees pretending to play instruments and lip singing!

I was watching Oprah today and she had a number of talented kids on today’s show. One of those kids was a 15 year old named Charice Pempengco. Charice is from the Philippines and has been singing since she was four years old. I had never heard of her but apparently she is quite popular on You Tube. I thought she did a great job on an extremely difficult song. Check her out!

Do you ever have those days where a certain song will just not go away? I have a very eclectic taste in music, so you never know what will strike a chord with me. A few weeks ago it was Do-Re-Mi from the Sound of Music. I had to sit and watch the movie to stop thinking about the song. This morning while listening to the morning news I swear the background music sounded like the track to Salt n Pepa singing What A Man. All day long this song has been going through my head. The song was part of their Very Necessary CD that came out in 1993. What A Man was my favorite song off that CD followed closely by Shoop. I can recite the lyrics to both songs. I figured I might as well watch the video to get the tune out of my head.

So I was driving in my car and Billy Joel came on the radio. Other than Uptown Girl, I don’t really like Billy Joel, so I changed the station. Billy Joel was on that station. I changed the station again, he was on this one. I changed my station four times before I came across something other than Billy Joel. My experience is that when you hear a medley of songs by one artist or if you keep changing stations and hear the same singer….they have died or are clinging to life in an area hospital. Good news…he is alive and well.

Born Edith Giovanna Gasson in 1915, Edith Piaf is France’s greatest gift to the world of popular music. La Môme Piaf (The Little Sparrow) was the nickname that Louis Leplee gave Edith, when he discovered her in 1935 and invited her to perform at his Paris nightclub. The rest they say is history. Her life story is just as intriguing as her soulful performances of famous songs such as Non Je Ne Regrette Rien and La Vie En Rose.

Pete bought me her CD Eternelle for Christmas and I love it. I am thinking about buying the movie about her as well.
