Mushroom Pate

January 5th, 2009 · No Comments · Food

Pete’s Aunt Linda makes an amazing dip called Mushroom Pate. I love this dip and after making a batch last night, I thought I would share it with everyone. We make a healthier version by using I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter and American Neufchâtel cheese.  Also if you find yourself without lemon juice or white wine, I have left it out and the dip is still wonderful. If you are looking for an easy party dip or casual appetizer this is perfect!

Aunt Linda’s Mushroom Pate

1/2 lb mushrooms, chopped

1/2 small onion, chopped

2-3 Tablespoons butter

8 ounces cream cheese, softened

1/4 teaspoon garlic powder

1 teaspoon lemon juice

1 Tablespoon dry white wine

Hot pepper sauce to taste

Salt & Pepper

Saute the mushrooms and onions in butter until the liquid evaporates. Process cream cheese, garlic powder, lemon juice, white wine, and pepper sauce  in food processor or blender until smooth. Add sauted mushrooms and onions and blend well. Taste and season with salt and pepper if needed. Cover and chill until ready to serve.  Serve with crackers, chips, or fresh vegetables. Makes 2 cups.
