My niece Hanniah is getting into singing nursery rhymes accompanied by hand-clapping. My sisters and I loved hand-clapping games when we were in grade school. I asked her if she knew CeCe My Playmate. She did not so I started teaching her these lyrics (The hand motions are not easy to teach a 4 year old, but so much fun!):
Ce Ce my playmate.
Come out and play with me,
and bring dollies three.
Climb up my apple tree.
Slide down my rainbow,
into my cellar door, and
we’ll be jolly friends,
forever more, more, -more, -more.
Well apparently I know a different version because as I was searching for a copy of the lyrics for my sister, I found these lyrics:
Say, say oh playmate,
Come out and play with me,
And bring your dollies three,
Climb up my apple tree.
Slide down my rain barrel,
Into my cellar door,
And we’ll be jolly friends,
Forever more – more – more!
Does anyone recall this song? Did you use either of these lyrics or did you use others?

Growing up, we used the first set of lyrics that you were used to. I can see where the change may have come in though as things are passed down small changes are always made. It could be that someone talked with their mouth full of marbles or someone else just thought Ce Ce was easier to sing than say, say.
You know, I’ve never heard this before. And I can’t for the life of me remember any I sang as a kid. My childhood memories are pretty spotty. LOL, it’s ashame because I know I’m forgetting some pretty good stuff.
Frankly, I think I’m probably too old to remember this…
Oh I so remember that! We used to do the 2nd version but said something else instead of “… dollies three” which I can’t remember and we said rainbow instead of rain barrel. We’d wrap it up by saying “More more 1-2-3-4″.
OMG, yes, do I remember this! My sister and I drove my parents crazy with it.
I remember singing a version that has a little bit from both variations, plus some changes:
Ce, Ce my playmate,
Won’t you come out and play,
And bring dollies three,
Climb up my apple tree,
Slide down my rain barrel,
Into my cellar door,
And we’ll be jolly friends,
Forever more – more – shut the door!
Then my parents would usually sing “Find another song” at the end.
I used to sing this with my sister all the time! We knew the first version you had posted, but instead of ‘ce ce my playmate’ it was ‘Shake Shake my playmate’ with a hand shake game type thing..
It was fun! I miss it!
i used to love it and i still do
weird
I am teaching my 5 yr old this song. I remeber it from when I was young. We use to sing a second part as well.
Say, say oh playmate,
Come out and play with me,
And bring your dollies three,
Climb up my apple tree.
Slide down my rainbow,
Into my cellar door,
And we’ll be jolly friends,
Forever more – more – more!
So sorry playmate,
Can’t come out and play with you,
My dollies have the flu,
Boo hoo hoo hoo hoo hoo.
Don’t have a rainbow,
Don’t have a cellar door,
But we’ll still be jolly friends,
Forever more – more – more!
When I was at school – many moons ago, we used to sing..
Ce Ce my playmate
Come out and play with me
Ce Ce my bonnie bee
Climb up the apple tree
Slide down the drain pipe
Into the cellar door
And we’ll be friends, friends, friends
For ever more, more more
but my 7 y.o. DD sings a different version again, she sings…
Ce Ce my playmate
Won’t you come play with me
My Daddy has the flu
I don’t know what to do
Slide down the drain pipe
Into the candy store
And suck a lollipop
For ever more more more
